Photo of Dhammayangyi Temple after 2016 earthquake in Bagan, Myanmar

Dreamy landscape

  • Taken: September 13, 2016
  • Location: Bagan, Myanmar - Map

One of the greatest ancient temple cities in the world Bagan in Myanmar was partly destroyed by 6.8 richter earthquake that struck 24 august 2016. More than 400 temples were completely or partly destroyed and most of the biggest and famous ones are now partly covered for restoration work.

Despite the damages and area not being 100% as photogenic as it gets it’s still mesmerizing to see the sun setting and rising from horizon to lit the fantasy landscape of Bagan.

Tip: The best views (in my opinion) are from top of Oak Kyaung Gyi. It’s not very well known and you can enjoy the sunset there in peace. You’ll need a telephoto lens for good photos though!
