Wild Elephants
- Taken: August 21, 2016
- Location: Minneriya National Park, Sri Lanka - Map
Minneriya National Park in Sri Lanka is one of the few places where Sri Lankan elephants still roam wild. Their numbers have halved in last three generations and future doesn’t look very good for them either. Poaching, destroying natural habitat and driving cattle to their areas is dramatically lowering their possibilities of survival. With too small gene pool they will probably extinct over time. I really hope that things turn into better.
Tip: Minneriya National Park is one of the best places to see wild elephants in their natural habitat. Be aware that the place might get a bit crowded at times and there are more safari jeeps around as well.
